Traffic Demand Forecast Study for PLUS and LPT2
MDS was hired by Malaysia’s largest highway operator to forecast traffic on the PLUS Highway and LPT2.
Using PTV Visum, we analysed how new and competing infrastructure would affect traffic on specific segments. The study identified shifts in route choice, changes in demand, and potential congestion points.
Our findings supported planning decisions related to highway capacity and toll strategy.
Penang Strategic Mobility Study
MDS carried out the Penang Strategic Mobility Study to improve transport on Penang Island.
We found that easing congestion at major points like the Penang Bridge would help in the short term. However, adding more road capacity would worsen local traffic. The long-term solution is reducing reliance on private cars.
Additionally, the study proposed 21 practical first steps to address current mobility shortcomings and fully capitalise on what is currently working well.
Seberang Perai Strategic Mobility Study
MDS supported the Levelling Up Seberang Perai initiative with a strategic mobility study.
We identified 7 core problems, 38 contributing factors, and 12 root causes, many linked to long-term land use.
While root issues may take decades to fix, we showed that progress is possible by targeting contributing factors.
Our team proposed 110 mitigation measures across 15 focus areas. These measures are practical and can show results within 1 to 2 years
Mobility and Transportation Assessment for the Dataran Merdeka Heritage Area Redevelopment Concept Study
As part of the Dataran Merdeka Redevelopment, MDS proposed transport improvements to increase access while preserving the area’s heritage.
One key idea was converting Jalan Raja into a one-way, two-lane road to ease congestion and expand walkable space.
This would open space for greenery, wider pavements, a mobility hub, and mixed-use zones.
Tok Bali Port Feasibility Study
MDS was part of the consultancy team for the Tok Bali Port Feasibility Study, providing expert input on marine and port-related aspects. Our role involved forecasting cargo demand, assessing vessel requirements, and preparing the port concept layout.
We evaluated four potential locations for the port expansion and developed a phased concept layout. This layout considered key factors such as when cargo demand will increase, vessel requirements, draft restrictions, and landside advantages.
Kuala Perlis Jetty Terminal Redevelopment Feasibility Study
MDS was engaged as part of the consultancy team for the Kuala Perlis Jetty Terminal Redevelopment Feasibility Study. Our role focused on providing expert input into the accessibility and operational flow of the terminal.
We assessed the existing terminal layout and proposed layout and provided recommendations to improve accessibility for passengers and optimise traffic flow. Our team also evaluated marine requirements, including vessel traffic and docking, and provided preliminary estimates for CIQ space.
Dhaka Circulation & Mobility Study for Mixed Development
MDS worked with the architect of a large mixed-use development in Dhaka to improve circulation and parking design.
We analysed internal traffic flow using swept path checks and VISSIM simulation.
Our work identified bottlenecks and led to design updates that improved circulation and reduced the impact on surrounding roads.
Traffic Study and Simulation for Persiaran Surian at Pelangi Damansara
MDS supported MBPJ in addressing traffic delays and safety issues near Pelangi Damansara.
We studied the impact of closing a signalised median and upgrading a nearby U-turn to handle rerouted traffic.
The proposed changes reduced signal wait times from about 5 minutes to 2 to 2.5 minutes and improved traffic safety.
Port Dickson Cruise Terminal Feasibility Study
MDS carried out a study for a new cruise terminal in Port Dickson.
We looked at where it could be built and whether it would be commercially viable.
The goal was to help decision-makers understand if the terminal could attract cruise ships and support tourism growth.
Port of Tanjung Pelepas
MDS played a key role in helping Maersk move operations from Singapore to the Port of Tanjung Pelepas.
This shift helped the port grow into a major regional shipping hub.
LIDO Waterfront Masterplan Connectivity Study
MDS completed Malaysia’s first feasibility study for an electric ferry crossing to Singapore.
The study was part of the LIDO Waterfront Masterplan and focused on creating a more sustainable and greener, cross-border transport option.
Bintulu Port
MDS supported improvements at Bintulu’s Oil and Gas Port.
We introduced planning ideas to improve how the port handles cargo and prepares for future growth.
Traffic Studies for MBPJ
MDS works closely with the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ). We help them manage traffic for complex projects.
This includes studies like the review of the traffic studies that require drone survey, advanced data analytics and other traffic planning work across the city.
TIA for Bahrain Bay
MDS completed the traffic assessment for Bahrain Bay, a major waterfront project.
Our work helped guide road layouts, access points, and traffic flow plans for the area
Crude Oil Pipeline across Peninsular Malaysia
MDS advised on the technical and financial feasibility of this concept.
Pulog Gebang Highway Feasibility Study
MDS studied the possibility of building a new toll road near Jakarta.
We worked for a Malaysian developer to check if the project would work based on traffic demand, route options, and cost.
Traffic Impact Assessment for GM Klang Wholesale City
MDS partners with Gamuda to support the growth of GM Klang Wholesale City.
We make sure the area has good road access and that traffic will not hold back future development
TIA for a Steel Mill Development in Teluk Kalong, Terengganu
MDS did a traffic study for a planned steel mill in Teluk Kalong. We looked at how the development might affect nearby roads.
Our findings were used to suggest traffic solutions and help with planning approval.
Traffic Consulting for ‘Heritage Trail Kuala Lumpur’
MDS helped Kuala Lumpur City Hall manage traffic during construction of the Heritage Trail.
We studied how well the timed contra-flow system worked and suggested ways to keep traffic moving safely.
A Market and Project Feasibility Study for Havsa International Logistics Centre, Turkey
MDS reviewed a plan to build a logistics centre in Havsa, Turkey. We looked at the area’s transport links and whether enough cargo demand existed.
The goal was to help investors decide if the project made business sense
